Commune of Lespezi, Iași county
This coat of arms brings together, in heraldic language, the key elements of Lespezi’s identity — highlighting its history, geography, and the traditional occupations of its people.
In the lower part of the shield, the water represents the Siret River, which flows through the commune and has played a vital role in the economic and social life of the region. Above it stands a six-legged iron bridge — a symbolic reference to the former bridge built by the renowned engineer Anghel Saligny, once a landmark in the area. Although the bridge no longer exists, it remains an important part of the local memory. The six pillars of the bridge also symbolise the six villages that make up the commune, all situated along the Siret and united by a shared history.
In the upper part of the shield, the scales allude to Lespezi’s status as a market village in the 19th century — a local centre for trade and exchange. One scale holds a chalice, a nod to the glass factory established here — the first of its kind in Romania. The other holds an ear of wheat, representing agriculture, the main occupation of the community. Together, these symbols placed in balance suggest the historical equilibrium between industry and farming — between local craftsmanship and rural life — that has shaped the commune’s economic development.
The coat of arms was approved by the Local Council of Lespezi commune (Local Council Decision no. 33/28.05.2025) and is currently undergoing the official approval process.
